Source: brand labels, products.json and product pages, prices checked Nov 7, 2026. Grinds says it upgraded its white pouches (including Energy) from 15 to 18 per can; per-pouch figures use 18.
Choose Grinds if
- You want the lowest price per pouch. Grinds Energy runs $0.27 on a 10-can subscription; Coffee Pouches start at $0.22 for Wintergreen 25 mg. Ultra's cheapest recurring price is $0.69.
- You want to grab one can in a store. Grinds says it is stocked at 15,000+ retail locations, mostly its Coffee Pouches (Energy flavors are marked online exclusive on its own store), and sells single cans ($7.95 Energy, $5.95 Coffee). Ultra sells through takeultra.com, Amazon and Faire wholesale, with no big-box or gas-station chain listing we could find.
- You want flavor range. Six Energy flavors and 20 Coffee flavors (6 of them limited drops) against Ultra's three Energy and five Focus options.
- You want a moderate dose or actual coffee flavor. Grinds Coffee Pouches run 25 to 100 mg on the flavors listed today. Grinds Energy matches a small cup of coffee at 80 mg. Ultra Energy starts at 180 mg with no lower option in that line.
Choose Ultra if
- You want the biggest single-pouch dose here. Ultra Energy packs 180 mg of caffeine, more than double Grinds Energy's 80 mg. Ultra recommends no more than 2 a day (Ultra Energy page).
- You want no caffeine at all. Ultra Focus uses 100 mg Enfinity paraxanthine instead of caffeine, plus 30 mg Alpha GPC and 10 mg L-theanine. Grinds now sells a caffeine-free Focus pouch too (40 mg Alpha GPC, 40 mg L-theanine, $7.95 a can).
- You want a published effect window or an Amazon listing. Ultra Focus states effects last 1 to 2 hours (Ultra FAQ). Ultra Focus is also on Amazon, at $37.45 for a 3-can variety pack ($0.83 a pouch) when checked Nov 7.
Where Roon fits, and where it falls short
Roon pairs 80 mg caffeine with 60 mg L-theanine plus Dynamine and TeaCrine. The stated window is 6 to 8 hours, and every pouch delivers the same 80 mg, so you can build up in controlled steps (two pouches is 160 mg; keep it to 4 a day and 400 mg total from all sources). Zero nicotine, zero calories, zero sugar.
Where Roon falls short, plainly: one flavor (Cool Mint) against Grinds' 26 Energy and Coffee flavors. A higher price per 100 mg of caffeine ($0.76) than Grinds Energy ($0.34) or Ultra Energy ($0.39). No single tin; one-time orders are multi-tin packs, or you subscribe. No Amazon listing. Sweetened with sucralose. And because it contains caffeine, Roon is no substitute for Ultra Focus if you are avoiding caffeine entirely.
How this comparison was put together
Every number above comes from each brand's product pages, products.json files, Shopify selling-plan data, FAQs and Ultra's Amazon listing, all checked Nov 2026. Per-pouch and per-100 mg figures were computed from those published prices and label doses. We did not lab-test any of these products or run any use test of our own. Roon makes one of the products compared, and this page links to it.
Which has more caffeine, Grinds or Ultra?
Ultra Energy has 180 mg per pouch; Grinds Energy has 80 mg. Ultra Focus contains zero caffeine. Two Grinds Energy pouches (160 mg) still fall short of one Ultra Energy pouch, so the gap is real. Ultra's Energy page says not to exceed 2 pouches a day, which caps you at 360 mg. Grinds publishes no daily limit on its Energy line, but the FDA's guideline for most healthy adults is 400 mg a day from all sources.
One note on Ultra Focus limits: the Focus FAQ says 3 to 4 a day with a "do not exceed 4" cap, while the single-can PDP says "do not exceed 5." Check Ultra's page for the latest guidance.
Is paraxanthine in Ultra Focus the same as caffeine?
No. Paraxanthine is a metabolite your liver produces when it breaks down caffeine, so Ultra Focus is caffeine-free but still a stimulant. Ultra uses a branded form called Enfinity at 100 mg per pouch. The practical difference: your liver turns caffeine mostly into paraxanthine, plus smaller amounts of theobromine and theophylline; taking paraxanthine directly skips that step. Ultra recommends not taking Focus pouches within 4 to 6 hours of bedtime. For a deeper look at the two compounds, see caffeine vs paraxanthine.
How long do Grinds and Ultra pouches last?
Ultra Focus is the only product here with a published effect duration: 1 to 2 hours, with the pouch kept in for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Ultra Energy says to keep the pouch in up to 30 minutes but publishes no effect window. Grinds says "enjoy for up to 60 minutes" on both lines, referring to pouch and flavor time, not how long the caffeine lasts. Without published durations, a straight time comparison between Grinds and Ultra Energy is not possible from their labels alone.
Price per 100 mg and per hour, computed
Formula: price per pouch ÷ caffeine mg × 100 = cost per 100 mg. Price per pouch ÷ brand-stated hours = cost per hour.
| Product | Price/pouch (basis) | Per 100 mg caffeine | Per hour of stated effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grinds Energy | $0.27 (10-can sub) | $0.34 | not published |
| Grinds Coffee Wintergreen 25 mg | $0.22 (20-can sub) | $0.90 | not published |
| Ultra Energy | $0.69 (9-can recurring) | $0.39 ($0.33 first order) | not published |
| Ultra Focus | $0.69 (9-can recurring) | n/a (no caffeine) | $0.35 to $0.69 |
| Roon (our product) | $0.61 (subscription) | $0.76 | $0.08 to $0.10 |
Roon costs more per 100 mg than either Grinds Energy or Ultra Energy. That is a fact, and it follows from the formula. The design trades a higher per-mg cost for a longer tail: methylliberine (Dynamine) slowed caffeine clearance in a double-blind, placebo-controlled PK study (n = 12), extending caffeine's half-life from 7.2 to 15 hours with no increase in peak concentration (study). That study dosed 100 mg methylliberine with 150 mg caffeine, roughly 4× and 1.9× what a single Roon pouch contains, so the direction of the effect applies, not the exact magnitude. The felt window Roon claims is 6 to 8 hours, not 15. If you need more than 80 mg, two pouches is 160 mg, counted toward a maximum of 4 a day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Grinds or Ultra pouches cheaper?
Grinds is cheaper per pouch. Grinds Energy runs $0.27 per pouch on a 10-can subscription, and Grinds Coffee Pouches drop as low as $0.22. Ultra's lowest recurring price is $0.69 per pouch on 9 cans (first-order pricing hits $0.59, but that rate does not continue). Single-can buyers pay $7.95 for Grinds Energy or $16.00 for either Ultra line.
Can you buy Ultra pouches in stores like Grinds?
Not in the same way. Grinds says it is stocked at 15,000+ retail locations, including Walmart and gas-station chains such as Buc-ee's and Casey's. Ultra sells through takeultra.com, Amazon (Focus Variety Pack at $37.45 for 3 cans on Nov 7) and wholesale via Faire, but no gas station or big-box chain listing has been confirmed. Ultra offers free shipping on orders over $50 and on all recurring subscriptions.
Do Grinds or Ultra pouches have nicotine?
Neither. Both brands are nicotine-free and tobacco-free across every product line, including Grinds Coffee Pouches, Grinds Energy, Grinds Focus, Ultra Focus, Ultra Energy and Ultra Sleep.
Can you use Grinds and Ultra on the same day?
Count your total caffeine. Two Grinds Energy pouches (160 mg) plus one Ultra Energy (180 mg) would put you at 340 mg, under the FDA's 400 mg guideline for most healthy adults. Ultra Focus contains no caffeine, so it does not add to that total, though it is still a stimulant (paraxanthine).
Does Grinds make a caffeine-free pouch like Ultra Focus?
Yes. Grinds Focus contains 40 mg Alpha GPC and 40 mg L-theanine with no caffeine, no calories and no sugar. It is sold through getgrinds.com at $7.95 per can, and Grinds says its white pouches now come 18 to a can. Grinds also sells ZERØ.Ø pouches, flavor only, with no caffeine or nootropics.
One Pouch for the Whole Work Block
The table above shows Roon at $0.76 per 100 mg of caffeine, the most expensive per-mg option in this comparison. What that per-mg figure does not capture is duration. Methylliberine slows caffeine's clearance rate. A small placebo-controlled PK study (n = 12) found that 100 mg methylliberine with 150 mg caffeine extended caffeine's half-life from 7.2 to 15 hours without raising the peak; Roon uses 25 mg methylliberine with 80 mg caffeine, so the mechanism points the same direction at a smaller scale (study). The result is a 6 to 8 hour window from a single pouch, at a coffee-sized 80 mg dose.
Because a longer half-life also means caffeine lingers, leave at least 8 hours between your last pouch and sleep. Roon starts at $9.16 per tin (as little as $0.61 per pouch on subscription), contains zero sugar (sweetened with sucralose), and carries a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first order, once per customer. It will not give you 26 flavors or a 180 mg wallop from a single pouch. What it gives you is one controlled dose that covers a full work block.
