Source: Starbucks menu product pages (starbucks.com/menu), read Oct 24, 2026. Hot Venti is 20 oz; iced Venti is 24 oz. All values in mg. "n/a" means Starbucks does not list that size.

Numbers come from Starbucks' published nutrition data for each drink's default recipe, no customizations. Actual caffeine varies with beans, brew time and the barista. Each extra espresso shot adds 75 mg. Older charts still list a grande Blonde Roast at 360 mg, Pike Place at 310 and Iced Coffee at 165; Starbucks' current menu shows 315, 315 and 185.

Which Starbucks drink has the most caffeine?

A Venti brewed coffee tops the standard menu at 390 mg, followed by a Trenta Cold Brew at 360 mg. The top of the list, by largest available size:

  1. Venti Pike Place / Blonde / Dark Roast (20 oz): 390 mg
  2. Trenta Cold Brew (30 oz): 360 mg
  3. Venti Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso (24 oz): 340 mg
  4. Trenta Iced Coffee (30 oz): 320 mg
  5. Grande brewed coffee, any roast (16 oz): 315 mg
  6. Venti Cold Brew (24 oz): 310 mg
  7. Venti Americano / Quad Espresso: 300 mg
  8. Grande Nitro Cold Brew (16 oz): 280 mg

That 390 mg Venti nearly hits the FDA's 400 mg daily figure for most adults, in one cup.

Why does a Tall latte have the same caffeine as a Short?

Espresso drinks scale by shots, not cup volume. The extra liquid in a larger size is steamed milk. A Short and a Tall Caffè Latte both contain 75 mg (one shot). A Grande and a hot Venti both contain 150 mg (the data implies two shots). An iced Venti jumps to 225 mg with a third shot. The Flat White breaks this pattern, starting at 130 mg in a Short, and a Cortado packs 230 mg into 8 oz.

Caffeine per ounce: which drinks hit hardest sip for sip?

Brewed coffee and Nitro Cold Brew are the most concentrated drinks you actually sit with. Grande (16 oz) is the baseline unless noted.

Drink (Grande 16 oz unless noted)Caffeinemg / fl oz

Pink Energy Drink125 mg7.8

Formula: mg per fl oz = caffeine mg ÷ serving fl oz.

What are the low-caffeine and caffeine-free options at Starbucks?

Decaf Pike Place still contains 15 to 30 mg depending on size. Hot chocolate ranges from 15 to 35 mg. London Fog and Royal English Breakfast sit at a flat 40 mg in every cup size. Refreshers run 25 to 100 mg by size (Energy Refreshers: 100 to 175 mg); see the full Refresher chart in our Pink Drink caffeine breakdown.

Zero caffeine: all Crème Frappuccinos (Vanilla Bean, Strawberry, Pistachio, Lavender, Orange Cream, Horchata, Pumpkin Spice Crème), Passion Tango Iced Tea, Mint Majesty, Lemonade, steamed milk and Vanilla Crème.

How many Starbucks drinks fit inside 400 mg a day?

One Venti brewed coffee (390 mg) nearly fills the 400 mg daily amount the FDA cites for most adults. A Grande brewed (315 mg) leaves about 85 mg, one espresso shot's worth. Two Grande lattes total 300 mg with more room. Count every source: the Starbucks order, any afternoon pouch, even a Coke. For a deeper look, see how much caffeine is too much.

Why Roon uses 80 mg

A Roon pouch carries 80 mg of caffeine, a little more than the 75 mg in a Tall latte and about a quarter of a grande Pike Place. The formula is built around how long the dose lasts rather than how big it is: 25 mg of methylliberine (Dynamine) slowed caffeine clearance in a small PK study, though that study used about 4x the methylliberine and 1.9x the caffeine, so only the direction carries over to a pouch. If 80 mg feels light, two pouches together make 160 mg. Roon's ceiling is 4 pouches a day, and today's Starbucks order counts toward the same 400 mg.

Who should watch Starbucks caffeine

The FDA has not set a caffeine level for children, and medical experts advise against energy drinks for children and teens; too much caffeine can raise their heart rate and blood pressure. If you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, the FDA recommends talking to a health care provider. People with heart-rhythm conditions, anxiety disorders or stimulant prescriptions should ask their clinician. The FDA estimates toxic effects such as seizures can follow rapid intake of roughly 1,200 mg.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much caffeine is in a grande Starbucks coffee?

A grande Pike Place, Blonde Roast (Sunsera) or Dark Roast (1971) has 315 mg, per Starbucks' menu data checked Oct 24, 2026. Older third-party charts list 310 mg for Pike Place and 360 mg for Blonde; those figures do not match the current menu.

Does Starbucks Blonde Roast have more caffeine than Pike Place?

Not on the current menu. Both Sunsera Blonde and Pike Place show 155 / 235 / 315 / 390 mg from Short to Venti. Starbucks' Blonde is now the Sunsera blend, introduced March 2025, and its published caffeine numbers match Pike Place size for size.

How much caffeine is in a Starbucks Frappuccino?

Coffee-based Frappuccinos are moderate: a grande Coffee Frappuccino has 95 mg, Mocha 100 mg and Caramel 90 mg. Crème Frappuccinos (Vanilla Bean, Strawberry, Pistachio and others) contain 0 mg because they skip the coffee base.

Does Starbucks decaf have caffeine?

Yes. Decaf Pike Place runs 15 mg (Short) to 30 mg (Venti). Decaf processes remove most caffeine, not all of it.

Coffee-Shop Caffeine That Lasts Past Lunch

A single Starbucks grande brewed coffee delivers 315 mg in one cup. If you want a smaller, steadier afternoon dose without another line, Roon puts 80 mg of caffeine under the lip, about the same as a Tall latte, with no cup and zero sugar.

Each pouch also contains 25 mg of methylliberine (Dynamine), 60 mg of L-theanine and 5 mg of theacrine (TeaCrine). Methylliberine slowed caffeine's clearance in a randomized crossover PK study (n=12, double-blind), extending caffeine's half-life from 7.2 to 15 hours while leaving peak concentration unchanged. Important context: that study dosed 100 mg methylliberine with 150 mg caffeine, roughly 4x and 1.9x what a Roon pouch contains, so the direction of the effect applies but the exact numbers do not. A 15-hour half-life is not 15 hours of felt energy: most people feel a pouch for about 6 to 8 hours, so finish your last one at least 8 hours before you plan to sleep. Two at once bring the dose to 160 mg; stay at four pouches a day or fewer and count your Starbucks toward the same 400 mg total.

Tins start at $9.16 (as little as $0.61 per pouch) on a 12-tin subscription, with a 30-day money-back guarantee on a first order. Zero nicotine, zero sugar.
