How Much Caffeine Is in Coke? Every Can and Bottle Size
A 12-ounce can of Coca-Cola has 34 mg of caffeine, per Coca-Cola's own product page. Coke Zero Sugar and Cherry Coke match that at 34 mg per 12 oz. Diet Coke is higher at 46 mg per 12 fl oz. The Caffeine Free versions of Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and Coke Zero Sugar contain none. A 20 oz bottle of regular Coke works out to about 57 mg.

How Much Caffeine Is in Coke by Can and Bottle Size?
Every size below is calculated from the labeled 12 oz value: mg per 12 fl oz × (container fl oz ÷ 12). Coca-Cola publishes the 12 oz figure; other sizes are scaled from it, so check the label on the container you have.
| Container | Coke, Coke Zero, Cherry Coke (34 mg/12 oz) | Diet Coke (46 mg/12 oz) |
|---|---|---|
| 7.5 fl oz mini can | about 21 mg | about 29 mg |
| 8 fl oz | about 23 mg | about 31 mg |
| 12 fl oz can | 34 mg | 46 mg |
| 16.9 fl oz bottle | about 48 mg | about 65 mg |
| 20 fl oz bottle | about 57 mg | about 77 mg |
| 2 liter bottle (67.6 fl oz), whole bottle | about 192 mg | about 259 mg |
Note: Coca-Cola lists a 13.2 fl oz size for Diet Coke only (about 51 mg). A 16 fl oz size is listed for Coke Original and Coke Zero Sugar (about 45 mg).
Does Diet Coke Have More Caffeine Than Regular Coke?
Yes: Diet Coke lists 46 mg per 12 fl oz, 12 mg more than regular Coke's 34 mg. Coca-Cola does not publish a reason for the difference. Coke Zero Sugar matches regular Coke at 34 mg, not Diet Coke. For a deeper breakdown of the Coke Zero numbers across sizes, see the Coke Zero caffeine guide.
How Much Caffeine Is in Coke Compared with Coffee?
Coca-Cola's own FAQ says a 12 oz cup of coffee "has 140mg or more" of caffeine, which it puts at "three to four times" the caffeine in a 12 oz Coke. The FDA's typical caffeine ranges are wider: caffeinated soft drinks run 23 to 83 mg per 12 fl oz, while regular brewed (non-specialty) coffee runs 113 to 247 mg per 12 fl oz. Even a weak cup of drip coffee delivers more than three times a Coke. More detail in the caffeine in a cup of coffee and decaf coffee caffeine guides.
Why Roon Uses 80 mg per Pouch
One Roon pouch holds 80 mg of caffeine, a little more than the 68 mg in two 12 oz cans of Coke, with zero sugar (it is sweetened with sucralose). The 25 mg of methylliberine in each pouch is there to stretch how long the caffeine lasts, not to raise the peak; the PK study behind that idea (n=12) used 100 mg methylliberine with 150 mg caffeine, roughly 4 times and 1.9 times what one pouch holds. If 80 mg is not enough, two pouches at once is 160 mg. Stay within Roon's limit of 4 pouches a day and 400 mg of caffeine from every source combined.
How Many Cokes Reach 400 mg of Caffeine?
About eleven 12 oz cans of regular Coke (400 ÷ 34 ≈ 11.8), or eight to nine Diet Cokes (400 ÷ 46 ≈ 8.7), would hit the FDA's 400 mg daily figure for healthy adults. That number covers caffeine from all sources: coffee, tea, soda, supplements, everything. The FDA advises anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding to talk to their healthcare provider about caffeine intake, and medical experts advise against energy drinks for children and teens. The 400 mg line is a ceiling, not a target. For more on daily limits, see how much caffeine is too much.
Which Coca-Cola Drinks Have No Caffeine?
Three versions carry the "Caffeine Free" label: Caffeine Free Coca-Cola, Caffeine Free Diet Coke, and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Caffeine Free. Each is sold in 12 fl oz cans and 2-liter bottles, per coca-cola.com. Coca-Cola also confirms that Sprite and Fresca are caffeine-free. For the full Sprite breakdown, see does Sprite have caffeine.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much caffeine is in a mini can of Coke?
A 7.5 fl oz mini can of Coca-Cola has about 21 mg of caffeine, scaled from the labeled 34 mg per 12 fl oz (34 × 7.5 ÷ 12 = 21.25). A Diet Coke mini can is about 29 mg. These are the smallest sizes Coca-Cola lists on its product pages.
Does Cherry Coke have caffeine?
Yes. Coca-Cola states that "a 12-ounce Coca-Cola Cherry can contains 34mg of caffeine," the same amount as regular Coke and Coke Zero Sugar. The limited Cherry Float and Zero Sugar Cherry Float flavors also list 34 mg per 12 fl oz.
Does Mexican Coke have the same caffeine as regular Coke?
Coca-Cola's Mexico product appears on the same page as the "a 12-ounce can of Coke has 34mg of caffeine" statement, but the company does not give a separate caffeine figure for Coca-Cola Mexico. The recipe uses cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup; whether the caffeine differs is not published.
Is there caffeine in Coca-Cola Vanilla?
Coca-Cola's flavors page does not list a per-serving caffeine number for Vanilla or Vanilla Zero Sugar the way it does for Cherry. Check the label on the can itself for the exact amount.
Past the Soda Fountain
A 12 oz Coke delivers 34 mg of caffeine. Two or three cans across an afternoon add up to 68 to 102 mg, spread out in whatever order the cans get opened.
Roon puts 80 mg of caffeine into a single pouch you place under the lip, and it starts working in 5 to 10 minutes. Where a can of soda fades in the afternoon, a pouch is built to carry its effect for roughly 6 to 8 hours, with 25 mg of methylliberine (Dynamine) included to slow how fast the body clears caffeine. A randomized crossover PK study (n=12) found methylliberine cut caffeine's oral clearance from 41.9 to 17.1 L/hr and extended caffeine's half-life from 7.2 to 15 hours, with no increase in peak concentration. That study dosed 100 mg methylliberine + 150 mg caffeine (about 4× and 1.9× the amounts in one Roon pouch). The mechanism runs the same direction; the exact magnitude at Roon's dose has not been studied. A 15-hour half-life is a clearance measurement, not 15 hours of felt energy, so finish your last pouch 8 or more hours before sleep.
Zero sugar and zero nicotine; the sweetener is sucralose. Tins start from $9.16 on a subscription, as little as $0.61 per pouch. Cap at 4 pouches a day and 400 mg caffeine from all sources.
Caffeine safety note: The FDA's 400 mg daily figure is for healthy adults. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication, or have a heart condition, talk to your healthcare provider about caffeine. Medical experts advise against energy drinks for children and teens. If you have questions about caffeine and a medical condition, consult your doctor.
