Does the Pink Drink Have Caffeine? Every Starbucks Refresher, Every Size

Yes, the Starbucks Pink Drink has caffeine. A grande (16 oz) contains 50 mg, sourced from green coffee extract, per Starbucks' product page checked September 19, 2026. A tall has 25 mg, a venti 75 mg, a trenta 100 mg. Since April 2026, you can also order it with no caffeine or as a Pink Energy Drink with 125 mg in a grande. Most pages still list the old 45 mg figure. This one is current.

How Much Caffeine Is in a Pink Drink?

The caffeine comes entirely from a Green Coffee Extract Blend, not from the fruit base or the coconutmilk.

Older caffeine databases still list 45 mg for a grande. Starbucks' own page showed 50 mg on the date we checked, likely reflecting the 2026 reformulation that separated green coffee extract into its own customizable add-in.

Starbucks Refresher Caffeine Chart: Every Flavor and Size

Every standard Refresher draws caffeine from the same Green Coffee Extract Blend, so the numbers are nearly identical. Lemonade adds calories and sugar. It does not add caffeine.

Can You Get a Pink Drink Without Caffeine?

Yes. Starbucks' Energy Refreshers page states: "Yes, you can order a regular Refresher without caffeine" and "You can customize the number of pumps of Green Coffee Extract in your Refresher."

In the app, the caffeine level appears as a customization option on any Refresher. At the register, ask for your Pink Drink with no green coffee extract. Before 2026, every Refresher came with the extract pre-mixed into the base, so a caffeine-free order was not possible. The 2026 change created three tiers: no caffeine, light caffeine (50 mg in a grande), and Energy (125 mg in a grande).

Pink Energy Drink and Energy Refreshers: 125 mg in a Grande

Launched nationwide on April 7, 2026, these are the same Refresher flavors with extra green coffee extract.

SizeFl ozCaffeine (mg)mg/fl oz

Grande161257.8
Venti241506.3

Applies to all Energy Refreshers: Pink Energy Drink, Dragon Energy Drink, Strawberry Açaí Energy, Mango Dragonfruit Energy, Mango Strawberry Energy, Passionfruit Guava Energy, the Lemonade Energy variants, Mango Dream Energy, Island Colada Energy, Cannon Ball Energy, and Pink Cannon Ball Energy.

A tall Energy Refresher has four times the caffeine of a tall standard Refresher (100 mg vs. 25 mg). A trenta Energy at 175 mg is close to the threshold discussed in our guide on whether 200 mg of caffeine is a lot.

Where Does the Caffeine Come From?

Green coffee extract, meaning unroasted coffee beans processed into a water-soluble extract. Starbucks has used it in Refreshers since 2012. The ingredient panel lists the extract alongside B vitamins (niacin, B5, B6, B12), which are not stimulants. The drink does not taste like coffee because green coffee extract is flavor-neutral compared to roasted beans.

A single espresso shot runs about 75 mg, so a grande Pink Drink is lighter than one shot and a grande Pink Energy Drink is heavier than one but lighter than a double.

Is 50 mg of Caffeine a Lot?

No. The FDA says 400 mg per day is an amount not generally associated with negative effects for healthy adults, so you could drink eight grande Pink Drinks before reaching it. If you are sensitive to caffeine, 50 mg may still register, especially in the evening. Caffeine's half-life runs 3 to 7 hours, so a late Pink Drink can affect sleep.

A few groups should pay closer attention:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding. The FDA recommends talking to your health care provider about whether to limit caffeine consumption.
  • Children and teens. The FDA notes that medical experts advise against energy drinks for children and teens because of sugar and caffeine levels. The 125 mg Energy Refreshers fall squarely in that category. Talk to a clinician.
  • Heart conditions or medications. If you have a condition or take a medication that interacts with caffeine, consult your prescriber.

How Much Sugar Is in a Pink Drink?

A grande Pink Drink has 25 g of total sugars and 140 calories. The American Heart Association's daily limit is 25 g of added sugar for women and 36 g for men. Not all of the Pink Drink's sugar is added (some comes from fruit juice and coconutmilk), but the total is high enough that a single grande likely approaches the women's added-sugar limit.

Lemonade Refreshers run higher. A grande Strawberry Açaí Lemonade has 32 g of sugar. A trenta Mango Strawberry Lemonade reaches 79 g, more than twice the AHA men's limit. The sugar lives in the Refresher base and lemonade, not in the green coffee extract, so choosing the no-caffeine option does not reduce it.

Choosing the Right Caffeine Level

The 2026 Refresher menu gives you three settings: zero, 50 mg, or 125 mg. Fifty is mild, roughly one cup of tea's worth. One hundred twenty-five is closer to a small drip coffee but arrives in a drink built around fruit juice, sugar, and ice. Know the number, match it to your day, and order accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Pink Drink have caffeine?

Yes. A grande Pink Drink has 50 mg of caffeine from green coffee extract. Since 2026, you can order it without caffeine by removing the green coffee extract, or with extra caffeine as a Pink Energy Drink (125 mg in a grande).

How much caffeine is in a venti Pink Drink?

A venti (24 oz) Pink Drink has 75 mg of caffeine, about what one espresso shot contains and roughly half of what an 8 oz brewed coffee delivers per ounce.

Does the Dragon Drink have caffeine?

Yes, the same amounts. The Dragon Drink uses the same Green Coffee Extract Blend: 25 mg tall, 50 mg grande, 75 mg venti, 100 mg trenta. The only difference is the Mango Dragonfruit base instead of Strawberry Açaí.

Do Starbucks lemonade Refreshers have caffeine?

Yes, identical amounts to their non-lemonade counterparts. A grande Mango Dragonfruit Lemonade has 50 mg, the same as a grande Mango Dragonfruit Refresher. Lemonade adds sugar and calories, not caffeine.

Is the Pink Drink safe for kids?

The standard grande has 50 mg of caffeine and 25 g of sugar. The FDA notes that medical experts advise against energy drinks for children and teens. The 125 mg Energy versions clearly qualify. For the standard version, talk to your child's pediatrician.

Does the Pink Drink have coffee in it?

It contains green coffee extract from unroasted beans, but it does not taste like coffee. There is no brewed coffee, espresso, or roasted coffee flavor. The extract provides caffeine and B vitamins only.

When 50 mg Is Not Enough and 125 mg Comes With 25 Grams of Sugar

Starbucks now gives you zero, 50, or 125. If 50 feels like nothing and 125 means 25 g of sugar before lunch, the menu has a gap.

Roon sits in that gap: 80 mg of caffeine, 60 mg of L-theanine, 25 mg of methylliberine (Dynamine), and 5 mg of theacrine (TeaCrine) in a zero-sugar, zero-nicotine sublingual pouch. The caffeine dose is moderate. What stretches it is the methylliberine. In a randomized, double-blind, crossover PK study (n = 12), co-administration of 100 mg methylliberine with 150 mg caffeine cut caffeine's oral clearance from 41.9 to 17.1 L/hr and extended its half-life from 7.2 to 15 hours, with no increase in peak concentration (Mondal et al., 2022). That study used 4x the methylliberine and roughly 1.9x the caffeine that Roon contains (25 mg + 80 mg), so the mechanism is directionally the same, not a direct dose match. Roon's felt window is 6 to 8 hours, not 15. The longer tail also means you should stop at least 8 hours before bed.

It is a pouch, not a drink. Zero sugar, zero calories, sweetened with sucralose and natural-and-artificial flavor. Tins start at $15.00 for a one-time 4-pack ($1.00 per pouch) or from $9.16 per tin on the 12-tin subscription ($0.61 per pouch), with a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first order only. Try Roon if the caffeine level you actually want does not come in a cup.
