Does Sunkist Have Caffeine? Every Flavor Checked
Yes. Sunkist Orange soda contains caffeine: Keurig Dr Pepper lists about 19 mg in a 12 fl oz can and about 31 mg in a 20 fl oz bottle, and Sunkist Zero Sugar Orange matches those figures. The other current Sunkist flavors, including Grape, Peach, and Strawberry Orange, list no caffeine in their ingredients (checked Oct 31, 2026).
Sunkist Caffeine by Flavor and Size
The table below covers every Sunkist soda listed on Keurig Dr Pepper's US product-facts pages. Only two of them, Orange and Zero Sugar Orange, contain caffeine; Strawberry Orange and Raspberry Blood Orange carry an orange name but no caffeine.

Figures from Keurig Dr Pepper's product-facts pages, checked Oct 31, 2026; mg per fl oz is our arithmetic from the listed figures. "None listed" means no caffeine highlight and no caffeine in the KDP ingredient list. KDP also lists Fruit Punch, Cherry Limeade, and fountain versions; those pages were not checked and no figures are given here.
Why Does an Orange Soda Have Caffeine?
Caffeine is an added ingredient in Sunkist Orange, not something that comes from the orange flavoring. The 20 fl oz ingredient list reads: "... SODIUM BENZOATE (PRESERVATIVE), CAFFEINE, YELLOW 6, RED 40." Check the ingredient line rather than the color or the flavor name: if caffeine is not printed there, the drink has none added.
Fanta takes the other route. Coca-Cola's Fanta product page describes "a caffeine-free Fanta Grape." For the full Fanta breakdown, see our Fanta caffeine guide.
Is Sunkist Zero Sugar Caffeine Free?
No. Sunkist Zero Sugar Orange lists the same 19 mg per 12 fl oz can as regular Sunkist Orange, at 0 calories and 0 g of sugar. The "zero sugar" label refers to sweetener, not caffeine. If you want an orange-flavored Sunkist with no caffeine, Strawberry Orange and Raspberry Blood Orange list none.
How Does Sunkist Compare with Coke?
Sunkist Orange carries less caffeine than a can of Coca-Cola Original. Coca-Cola's own product FAQ states: "A 12-ounce can of Coke has 34mg of caffeine." That makes Sunkist Orange's 19 mg about 56% of Coke's dose in the same serving size.
| Drink | Size | Caffeine |
|---|---|---|
| Sunkist Orange | 12 fl oz can | about 19 mg |
| Sunkist Orange | 20 fl oz bottle | about 31 mg |
| Coca-Cola Original | 12 fl oz can | 34 mg |
| Roon caffeine pouch | 1 pouch | 80 mg |

Is the Caffeine in Sunkist a Lot?
For most adults, no. The FDA has cited 400 mg a day as an amount "not generally associated with negative effects." You would need about 21 twelve-ounce cans or roughly 13 twenty-ounce bottles of Sunkist Orange to reach that ceiling. At those volumes, the sugar is the bigger number: KDP lists 41 g of total sugars in a 12 fl oz can and 68 g in a 20 fl oz bottle.

Who Should Check the Label First
- Children and teens. The FDA notes that medical experts advise against energy drinks for children and teens. Sunkist is a soda, not an energy drink, but caffeine adds up across drinks throughout the day. Talk to a pediatrician if you are unsure about a child's total intake.
- Pregnant or breastfeeding. The FDA recommends talking to your health care provider about caffeine during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Caffeine-sensitive or evening drinkers. Even 19 mg can matter if you are highly sensitive or stacking it with other caffeinated beverages close to bedtime.

Caffeine You Can Count, Not Guess
The useful habit from this page is reading the label instead of guessing from the flavor. Roon is built around that idea: every active ingredient is printed with its dose.
Each Cool Mint Roon pouch sits under the lip and lists 80 mg caffeine alongside 60 mg L-theanine, 25 mg methylliberine (Dynamine) and 5 mg theacrine (TeaCrine), with zero nicotine and zero sugar (it is sweetened with sucralose). Methylliberine is there for duration: in a randomized, double-blind crossover PK study (n=12), co-dosing it with caffeine extended caffeine's half-life from 7.2 to 15 hours and cut oral clearance from 41.9 to 17.1 L/hr, with no increase in peak concentration (study). That trial dosed 100 mg methylliberine + 150 mg caffeine, about 4x and 1.9x what a single Roon pouch contains, so the mechanism points the same way but the magnitude is not directly portable. In practice a pouch carries most people for roughly 6 to 8 hours; a 15-hour half-life describes how slowly caffeine clears, not how long you feel it. Caffeine from a pouch still counts toward the FDA's 400 mg daily figure, Roon's own limit is 4 pouches a day, and the last one should come at least 8 hours before bed.
Roon costs from $9.16 per tin, or as little as $0.61 per pouch on a 12-tin subscription.
