ZYN Cool Mint: Strengths, Taste, Price and FDA Status

ZYN Cool Mint: Strengths, Taste, Price and FDA Status
ZYN Cool Mint is a tobacco-free nicotine pouch that ZYN describes as "a taste of menthol with notes of peppermint." In the US it comes in four strengths: 1.5, 3, 6 and 8 mg, with 15 pouches per can. Only the 3 mg and 6 mg cans appear on the FDA's authorized nicotine pouch list (current as of 08/21/2026). Northerner lists it at $4.49 a can as of Oct 2026. If you want the same mint format without nicotine, Roon is a Cool Mint caffeine pouch with 80 mg caffeine per pouch.

How This Page Was Put Together
Every number on this page comes from ZYN's own product pages, the FDA's published authorized-products list, and Northerner's retail listings (a Haypp Group retailer). Prices shown are one retailer's listed prices before state tobacco tax and sales tax, so what you pay at checkout will differ by state. Nothing here comes from lab testing or from using the pouches; it is all published label and retail data. Roon makes a nicotine-free Cool Mint caffeine pouch, and this page links to it. You can verify every figure at the sources linked above.
What Does ZYN Cool Mint Taste Like?
ZYN's own product page calls Cool Mint "a taste of menthol with notes of peppermint." That puts it in a family of five ZYN mint flavors, each with its own profile. ZYN's descriptions for each (from their respective 6 mg product pages):
| Flavor | ZYN's description |
|---|---|
| Cool Mint | "a taste of menthol with notes of peppermint" |
| Peppermint | "a classic mint flavor" |
| Menthol | "a refreshingly cool burst with minty undertones" |
| Spearmint | "a smoother, slightly sweeter mint" |
| Wintergreen | "mint refreshment with a hint of sweetness" |
By ZYN's own wording, Cool Mint is the one that names menthol first, while Spearmint and Wintergreen are the two it describes as sweeter.
One labeled user review on Nicokick (8 mg page, 4.9 out of 5 from 8 reviews): "Nice strong (but not too strong) mint flavor" (Jeff, Dec 9, 2023). That is a small sample, so treat it as a single data point rather than a consensus.
Which Strength of ZYN Cool Mint Should You Pick?
ZYN Cool Mint is sold in 1.5, 3, 6 and 8 mg in the US, and the flavor is the same across strengths; only the nicotine dose changes. Northerner's own guidance: "If uncertain, choose a lower-strength option."
This page will not tell you which milligram to start with. Nicotine tolerance varies by person and history, and a clinician is the right person to ask if you are unsure. For more context on how ZYN's strength tiers differ, see the ZYN strengths guide. There are also dedicated pages on ZYN 1.5 mg and ZYN 8 mg if those specific tiers interest you.
Is ZYN Cool Mint FDA Authorized?
ZYN Cool Mint 3 mg and 6 mg are on the FDA's list of authorized nicotine pouches; the 1.5 mg and 8 mg cans are not on that list as of its 08/21/2026 update.
On June 30, 2026, the FDA issued modified-risk tobacco product (MRTP) orders for 20 ZYN products, including Cool Mint in 3 mg and 6 mg. Those cans can carry the claim: "Using ZYN instead of cigarettes puts you at a lower risk of mouth cancer, heart disease, lung cancer, stroke, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis." The scope of that claim is narrow: it compares ZYN to cigarettes, not to being nicotine-free.
Two points to be clear about. First, "authorized" and "modified-risk" are not the same as "FDA approved." The FDA authorized these products to be marketed; it did not approve them the way it approves drugs. Second, the FDA's own announcement states: "There is no safe tobacco product, and those who do not use tobacco products should not start."
What ZYN Cool Mint Costs
Northerner lists the same price ladder for all four Cool Mint strengths (checked Oct 24, 2026):
| Pack | Total | Per can | Per pouch |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 can | $4.49 | $4.49 | $0.30 |
| 5 cans | $22.45 | $4.49 | $0.30 |
| 10 cans | $42.90 | $4.29 | $0.29 |
| 25 cans | $99.75 | $3.99 | $0.27 |
| 50 cans | $199.50 | $3.99 | $0.27 |
Per-pouch price = per-can price ÷ 15.
ZYN's own site no longer sells pouches directly. It names Nicokick.com and Northerner.com as online options (both are Haypp Group retailers, not independent of each other). ZYN also points shoppers to retailers near them; pricing varies by retailer and state. Nicokick shows a worked tax example for one state: $3.99 + $1.71 tobacco tax + $0.41 sales tax = $6.11 per can. Your checkout total will usually be higher than the pre-tax prices above. For a broader look at ZYN pricing, see the ZYN price guide.
Do ZYN Cool Mint Cans Earn ZYN Rewards?
Yes. Each can carries one ZYN Rewards code. Enter it at zyn.com/rewards for 15 points per code, up to 60 codes per month (900 points max). Points expire after at least 60 days without entering a new code. For a full walkthrough, see the ZYN Rewards guide.
Who Should Skip Nicotine Pouches
ZYN's own pages carry the warning: "This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical." ZYN is restricted to adults 21 and older.
People who are pregnant, nursing, have a heart condition, or do not currently use nicotine should not start. The FDA's position on this is direct: "Those who do not use tobacco products should not start." If you have questions about nicotine and your health, talk to your clinician.

Where Cool Mint Sits in the ZYN Lineup
Cool Mint is one of five mints in the standard ZYN line, and the only one ZYN describes as menthol with peppermint notes. It is sold in all four US strengths at one price per can. The 3 mg and 6 mg cans hold both FDA marketing authorization and the modified-risk claim; the 1.5 mg and 8 mg cans do not appear on the FDA's authorized list. To compare it with the rest of the range, see the full ZYN flavors ranking.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is ZYN Cool Mint discontinued?
No. As of Oct 24, 2026, zyn.com lists Cool Mint in all four US strengths (1.5, 3, 6 and 8 mg), and Northerner shows active product pages for each.
Is ZYN Cool Mint the same as ZYN Ultra Arctic Mint?
No. ZYN Cool Mint is part of the standard line (1.5, 3, 6, 8 mg, 15 pouches per can). ZYN Ultra Arctic Mint belongs to the newer ZYN Ultra moist-pouch line (9 and 11 mg, 20 pouches per can). The FDA's authorized list uses the name "Cool Mint" for one ZYN Ultra 9 mg product, but zyn.com sells that Ultra variant as Arctic Mint. For more on Ultra, see the ZYN Ultra flavors guide.
How many pouches come in a ZYN Cool Mint can?
15 pouches per can across all four strengths. Net weight is 6 g per can for the 1.5, 3 and 6 mg versions and 8 g for the 8 mg can, per Northerner's listings.
What is in ZYN Cool Mint?
The ingredient list from Northerner's product page: nicotine salt (nicotine bitartrate dihydrate), stabilizers (hydroxypropyl cellulose), fillers (microcrystalline cellulose, maltitol, gum arabic), pH adjusters (sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate), and sweetener (acesulfame K). No tobacco leaf, no caffeine.
Does ZYN Cool Mint have caffeine?
No. ZYN is a nicotine pouch. Its active ingredient is nicotine salt; its ingredient list contains no caffeine. If you want a caffeine pouch in a cool mint flavor, that is a different product category entirely.
Same Mint, No Nicotine
If you like the Cool Mint ritual but want to drop the nicotine, Roon is a zero-nicotine pouch in the same format: place it under the lip, feel it in 5 to 10 minutes, move on with your day. Each pouch delivers 80 mg caffeine paired with 60 mg L-theanine, 25 mg methylliberine (Dynamine) and 5 mg theacrine (TeaCrine), with zero sugar (it contains sucralose).
The duration argument is the reason for that formula. Methylliberine slows how the body clears caffeine. In a randomized, double-blind crossover PK study (n=12), co-dosing 100 mg methylliberine with 150 mg caffeine extended caffeine's half-life from 7.2 to 15 hours and cut oral clearance from 41.9 to 17.1 L/hr, with no increase in peak concentration. That study used roughly 4x Roon's methylliberine and 1.9x its caffeine, so the mechanism applies directionally, not as Roon's measured result. A 15-hour half-life does not mean 15 hours of alertness. In practice, one 80 mg Cool Mint pouch is designed to carry you for roughly 6 to 8 hours, about the length of a full work block. Cap your day at 4 pouches and allow at least 8 hours between your last pouch and sleep.
Roon costs from $9.16 per tin on a 12-tin subscription (as little as $0.61 per pouch), and your first order is covered by a 30-day money-back guarantee, once per customer, nothing to send back. Try Roon.
