How these prices were gathered
VELO's US site (velo.com) lists no retail prices and has no store. Prices below come from Northerner and gotpouches on Oct 24, 2026, before sales tax. State excise rates are from the Tax Foundation (Sep 2026); dollar add-ons for flat-rate states were computed from the published can weight of 10.6 g (0.38 oz). Nobody surveyed store shelves for this page. Roon, which makes a nicotine-free caffeine pouch, is linked further down, and each price links to the page it came from so you can check it.
VELO is a nicotine product sold only to adults 21 and over under federal Tobacco 21 law, and its own FAQ warns: "This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical."
How much is a can of VELO?
A single VELO Plus or VELO Max can lists at $4.49 at Northerner. At gotpouches, VELO Plus is a flat $5.29 per can across all 26 VELO Plus listings (gotpouches.com). gotpouches does not carry VELO Max.
The original VELO line (about 4 and 7 mg) still appears on VELO's FAQ, but neither retailer checked here sells it, so there is no price to report. Northerner also sells VELO Plus Mixpacks (6 mg and 9 mg) at $20.95 each and a limited-edition McLaren tin at $24.95; neither listing states how many cans or pouches it contains. For a full breakdown of all three lines, see the VELO vs. VELO Plus vs. VELO Max comparison.
VELO price per pouch, 1 to 50 cans
Both lines pack 20 pouches per can (velo.com FAQ). Northerner's volume tiers cut the per-pouch cost by about 22% on Plus and 27% on Max.
| Cans | Plus /can | Plus /pouch | Max /can | Max /pouch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $4.49 | $0.225 | $4.49 | $0.225 |

| 10 | $3.99 | $0.200 | $3.99 | $0.200 |
| 25 | $3.79 | $0.190 | $3.69 | $0.185 |
| 50 | $3.49 | $0.175 | $3.29 | $0.165 |
Formula: per pouch = can price ÷ 20. Source: Northerner, Oct 24, 2026.
VELO Max is $0.10 to $0.20 cheaper per can than Plus at the 25- and 50-can tiers. Price does not vary by nicotine strength at either retailer. Northerner showed VELO Plus Wintergreen 6 mg out of stock at 50 cans on the date checked; other flavors were available.
VELO price by state: what pouch taxes add
As of September 2026, 20 states and the District of Columbia tax nicotine pouches (Tax Foundation). Six use flat or per-ounce rates that can be computed in dollars. The rest tax a percentage of wholesale, which no retailer discloses.
Flat-rate and per-ounce states (on a $4.49, 0.38 oz VELO Plus can):
| State | Tax | Excise added | Can + excise | Per pouch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| North Carolina | $0.10 /container (≤20) | $0.10 | $4.59 | $0.230 |
| Indiana | $0.50 /oz | $0.19 | $4.68 | $0.234 |
| Oregon | $0.65 /package (≤20) | $0.65 | $5.14 | $0.257 |
| Utah | $1.00 /can (≤20) | $1.00 | $5.49 | $0.275 |
| Texas | $1.22 /oz, 1.2 oz min | $1.46 | $5.95 | $0.298 |
| Vermont | $2.57 /oz, 1.2 oz min | $3.08 | $7.57 | $0.379 |
Maine taxes pouches at $3.54/oz (1 oz minimum) per the Tax Foundation, though Maine DHHS cites a different structure. Check Maine Revenue Services for the current rule.
Percentage-of-wholesale states (rate only; Tax Foundation): CA 54.27% · CO 56% · DC 64% · IL 45% · LA 20% · MD 60% · MN 95% · NE 20% · NV 30% · NH 65.03% · NJ 30% · NY 75% · RI 80% · WA 95%. State agencies may list newer rates than the Tax Foundation, so confirm yours with your state's revenue department.
In most states the excise is collected before the shelf price is set, so the add-ons above show the size of the tax, not a line on your receipt. Online retailers that ship to your state generally collect its taxes too, so buying online mostly saves the store markup, not the tax. For a similar breakdown applied to ZYN, see ZYN price by state.
Is VELO cheaper than ZYN?
Per pouch, yes. At Northerner, both VELO Plus and ZYN list at $4.49 a can (the ZYN flavor checked showed out of stock, with the price still listed), but VELO packs 20 pouches and ZYN packs 15:
- VELO Plus: $4.49 ÷ 20 = $0.225/pouch
- ZYN (standard): $4.49 ÷ 15 = $0.299/pouch
- Grizzly: $5.89 ÷ 20 = $0.295/pouch (Northerner)
VELO Plus is roughly 25% cheaper per pouch than ZYN at the same retailer. At 50 cans, VELO Max drops to $0.165 while ZYN sits at $0.266 ($3.99 ÷ 15). See the full ZYN vs. VELO comparison, and for more brands ranked by cost, cheapest nicotine pouches per pouch.
What a can a day costs for a year
| Scenario | Can price | Annual cost (× 365) |
|---|---|---|
| VELO Plus, single-can rate | $4.49 | $1,638.85 |
| VELO Plus, 50-can rate | $3.49 | $1,273.85 |
| VELO Max, 50-can rate | $3.29 | $1,200.85 |
Buying 50 at a time saves $365/year on Plus and $438 on Max, before any state tax.
Pick the cheapest way to buy VELO
- First time: one can at Northerner ($4.49) or gotpouches ($5.29 for Plus).
- Regular user: 25 to 50 cans online. Plus: $3.79 to $3.49/can. Max: $3.69 to $3.29.
- Flavor variety: the VELO Plus Mixpack at Northerner ($20.95).
- Pouch format, zero nicotine: Roon from $9.16 per tin (caffeine, not nicotine, so the pouch excise taxes above do not apply).
Twenty Cents a Pouch, Before Your State Weighs In
VELO Plus and VELO Max land in a tight band of about 16 to 22 cents per pouch online, undercutting ZYN per pouch thanks to the 20-count can. Where you live decides whether the state adds a dime or several dollars on top. The price ladder rewards bulk, and the biggest savings appear at 50 cans, though specific flavors go out of stock. Every number above is a snapshot from two retailers on one date; confirm totals at checkout and factor in your state's excise before placing a large order.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is VELO more expensive at gas stations?
Convenience stores set their own markup, and local sales tax is added at the register. We did not survey shelf prices, so this page gives no gas-station figure to compare.
Does VELO sell cans on its website?
No. Velo.com/us provides product information and a store locator but no shopping cart. Buying online requires a third-party retailer like Northerner or gotpouches.
How many pouches are in a VELO can?
All three lines contain 20 pouches per can (VELO FAQ). That is five more than a standard ZYN can.
Is VELO Max more expensive than VELO Plus?
A single can of either is $4.49 at Northerner. The gap appears at scale: at 50 cans, Max is $3.29/can versus Plus at $3.49.
Does VELO price change by nicotine strength?
No. A 3 mg and a 9 mg VELO Plus can cost the same at both retailers. VELO Max (8 mg and 12 mg) follows the same pattern.
Is there a VELO subscription?
Not from VELO. Northerner offers its own Subscribe & Save (30% off the first subscription order, 5% off every order after), but that is Northerner's program, not VELO's.
Priced Per Hour, Not Per Can
Per-can pricing tells you what leaves your wallet, not what you get for it. VELO Plus runs 17 to 22 cents a pouch, but the brand publishes no duration estimate, so a per-hour cost cannot be calculated.
Roon is a different category: a zero-nicotine caffeine pouch with 80 mg caffeine, 60 mg L-theanine, 25 mg methylliberine (Dynamine), and 5 mg theacrine (TeaCrine), placed under the lip. Methylliberine slows caffeine clearance. In a randomized, double-blind crossover PK study (n=12), co-administering methylliberine with caffeine extended caffeine's half-life from 7.2 to 15 hours and cut oral clearance from 41.9 to 17.1 L/hr, without raising the peak (study). That study dosed 100 mg methylliberine with 150 mg caffeine, roughly 4x the methylliberine and 1.9x the caffeine in one Roon pouch, so the mechanism points the same direction but the exact numbers do not transfer. A 15-hour half-life is a clearance figure, not 15 hours of perceived energy; Roon's usable window runs 6 to 8 hours.
Roon costs from $9.16 per tin, or as little as $0.61 per pouch; spread over that window, the math is about $0.08 to $0.10 per hour. Cap daily use at four pouches, keep total caffeine from every source under the FDA's 400 mg guideline for healthy adults, and wrap up your last pouch eight hours or more before bed. Roon carries no nicotine and falls outside every pouch excise tax listed above. If the format fits your day but nicotine no longer does, Roon is worth a look. A 30-day money-back guarantee covers first orders, once per customer, with nothing to send back.
